AWS launched TorchNeuron, a native PyTorch backend for Trainium2 and Trainium3 accelerators, in public beta on October 19, 2026. The open-source tool, released during PyTorch Conference North America on October 20, enables developers to move AI models onto Trainium hardware with a single line of code, such as .to('neuron'), maintaining full compatibility with standard PyTorch APIs.
The Neuron SDK 2.33.0 release supports eager execution and eliminates the need for custom compiler-heavy programming previously required with PyTorch/XLA integration. AWS reports over 30 early customers adopting TorchNeuron, including Cartesia, Deepgram, and Hugging Face, spanning robotics, voice AI, and large language model development.
