According to Cointelegraph, Sweden's central bank (Riksbank) recommended on October 7 that parliament prepare legislation for a potential digital krona. The bank cited the European Central Bank's push toward a digital euro, with trials planned for 2027 and potential public launch by 2029, as well as increased adoption of foreign-currency stablecoins in Sweden. Riksbank warned that a payment system lacking a digital version of the national currency could face competitive pressure, particularly from dollar-pegged stablecoins used for domestic payments. The bank estimated that implementing a digital krona would require at least five years, excluding time needed for legislative changes.
