According to Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, real wages (adjusted for inflation) increased 2.2% year-over-year in September 2026, marking the ninth consecutive month of growth—the first such streak in nearly a decade since February 2016–January 2017. Nominal wages surged 4.6% to 314,09 yen, driven by basic salary growth of 3.7%, overtime pay gains of 3.6%, and a significant 32.6% spike in bonuses. The wage growth rate has now outpaced inflation, with the monthly gain expanding from 1.6% in August.
