According to Barron's, Micron Technology's stock fell 17% on November 5 before rebounding 5.12% on November 6, bringing its 2027 fiscal year price-to-earnings ratio to approximately 3.7x, down from 6.4x in early October. The decline occurred despite market expectations for the company's current fiscal year revenue and profit to grow more than 100%, with further gains anticipated in the following year.
Micron has secured two major safeguards against potential downturn. The company holds long-term take-or-pay contracts covering over 35% of estimated revenues through 2030, which require customers to pay fees even if they do not receive full agreed-upon products. Additionally, Micron can begin large-scale share buybacks starting December 9, with analysts estimating the company may repurchase up to $100 billion in stock by August 2027, equivalent to over 10% of its current market capitalization.
