Google Updates Privacy Policy to Allow Gmail and Photos Data for Personalized Ads, Effective Oct. 16

According to Android Authority, Google revised its privacy policy effective Oct. 16 to allow content from Gmail, Drive, and Google Photos to personalize ads when users connect these services to AI features like Gemini and AI Mode in Search.

The change introduces a conditional exception to Google's long-standing pledge not to use private email, drive, or photo content for ad targeting. By default, the feature remains off and advertisers do not see the underlying content. Users can opt out by disconnecting apps under Connected Content settings in their Google Account's Data & privacy section.
