South Korea Postpones Cryptocurrency Income Tax Implementation Scheduled for January 1, 2027

According to Foresight News citing Seoul Economic Daily, South Korea's presidential office announced on October 25 that it has decided to postpone the implementation of cryptocurrency income tax originally scheduled for January 1, 2027. This marks the third delay since the government first amended income tax law in 2020. Under the law, cryptocurrency gains from transfers or lending, after deducting a basic tax exemption of approximately $1,889 (2.5 million won), will be subject to a 22% tax rate. The government is expected to make a final decision on the matter following its party-government coordination meeting later this month.
