According to Berkshire Hathaway's November 7 earnings release, the company repurchased $9.6 billion in shares during the third quarter of 2026 as net income declined 28% to $22.11 billion from $30.80 billion a year earlier. The buyback acceleration, led by new CEO Greg Abel, was approximately twice the $4.8 billion spent during the first half of 2026. Berkshire's insurance operations drove weakness, with underwriting earnings falling 43% to $1.35 billion. Geico's underwriting profit dropped approximately 45% to $982 million due to increased claims costs and advertising expenses. Operating earnings declined 5.8% to $12.71 billion.
