Democratic Lawmakers Push for AI Ban with 20-Year Prison Terms on November 4

According to Caiwenbao, U.S. Democratic Representative Yasmin Ansari (Arizona) called on November 4 for the Democratic Party to prioritize pausing advanced AI development and banning artificial superintelligence. The proposal follows the Democratic Party's regaining control of both chambers of Congress in recent midterm elections.

The proposed ASI Prohibition Act of 2026 requires a comprehensive halt to all advanced AI research until federal regulators establish oversight mechanisms. Penalties include mandatory company dissolution and up to 20 years in federal prison for individuals—comparable to penalties for illegal nuclear weapons development. The legislation aims to enforce a global superintelligence ban, with the U.S. government pursuing international agreements and implementing strict export controls.
