Google's Willow Quantum Chip Cuts Magic-State Errors 40-Fold in Latest Test

According to Google Quantum AI, the company's Willow processor achieved a 40-fold reduction in errors when preparing magic states on October 15, advancing a quantum computing technique relevant to cryptocurrency security. The experiment, published in Science, demonstrated approximately 99.99% logical fidelity.

However, only 8% of preparation attempts survived the researchers' error checks. Google acknowledged that substantial scaling challenges remain before such systems could pose practical threats to Bitcoin's elliptic-curve cryptography.
