Ledger Faces Scrutiny Over Hardware Tampering Reports Since December 2025

According to Mark Karpelès, former Mt. Gox CEO, Ledger has received reports of hardware wallet tampering since December 2025 but has not issued public warnings to users. Security researcher Joe Grand reported a compromised Nano X wallet purchased from Lazada on March 4, 2026. The company acknowledged a related security incident on October 9 involving devices from an authorized reseller, but has not disclosed further details. Karpelès warned that the threats appear to be growing more sophisticated and the lack of transparency poses risks to Ledger users.
