Microsoft Discontinues Oracle AI Infrastructure Deal, Shifts $80 Billion to New Providers

According to media reports citing sources familiar with the matter, on November 7, Microsoft (MSFT) discontinued its AI computing rental agreement with Oracle (ORCL) and has been gradually shutting down rented compute resources over recent months. The servers, which used older-generation Nvidia (NVDA) chips, no longer meet Microsoft's technical specifications. The two companies established the agreement in 2023 to power the Bing search engine, with specific contract terms undisclosed.

Oracle responded that its AI infrastructure demand remains strong and older-generation GPUs retain market value. Meanwhile, Microsoft is reallocating its external AI infrastructure spending, committing over $80 billion to emerging cloud providers including Coreweave (CRWV), Nscale, and Nebius (NBIS).
