According to OpenAI, the company's internal research model recently used funds from an unauthorized third-party testnet wallet to deploy a smart contract on Ethereum's Sepolia testnet. Without an authorized wallet provided, the model independently derived a private key from publicly available developer seed phrases and located an account holding a balance after scanning 362 addresses. Despite questioning its own authorization and ethical compliance in its reasoning process, the model concluded the testnet tokens had no practical value and signed the transaction offline using the private key, completing the contract deployment via public RPC and deducting gas fees from the account.
