Starknet Opens 7-Day Vote on L2 Exit to Become Post-Quantum L1 by 2027, Closes Oct. 22

According to Cointelegraph, Starknet opened a seven-day non-binding vote on Thursday (Oct. 15) asking STRK token holders whether the Ethereum layer-2 network should explore becoming an independent, post-quantum layer-1 blockchain. Voting closes on Oct. 22, with three options: support further research, oppose it, or remain neutral.

A "Yes" vote signals support for research only and does not authorize an immediate transition. StarkWare, Starknet's developer, cited quantum-security risks tied to Ethereum dependencies and said the move could enable quantum-resistant security independent of Ethereum's upgrade timeline. StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson told Cointelegraph that "quantum-proofing crypto is urgent, so we must move at lightning speed."
