Thousands Protest Data Center Expansion Across Europe on November 7, 2,000 March in Dublin

According to Bloomberg, on November 7, thousands of protesters across Europe held demonstrations against artificial intelligence data center expansion. Around 2,000 people marched in Dublin while approximately 1,300 gathered in Helsinki, with the Stop Dirty Data Centres coalition calling for a building moratorium until public democratic processes determine how such projects should serve society and the environment.

Communities are increasingly concerned about land and power demands, rising energy costs, and potential local economic benefits. In Ireland, data centers accounted for 23% of total electricity consumption in 2025. Google announced a 13 billion euro investment in Finland in September for expanding existing facilities and constructing two new data centers.
