Tsinghua Graduate Defrauded for 45 Days, Tricked Into Buying Virtual Currency

According to Red Star News on November 6, a Tsinghua University graduate studying at University College London was defrauded for nearly 45 days after arriving in the UK. The victim received fraudulent calls impersonating embassy and police officials, who conducted a three-hour information blitz after he was exhausted, causing him to lose judgment. Fraudsters then posed as Interpol agents and convinced him he was assisting an investigation into money laundering, subjecting him to 24-hour video monitoring and psychological manipulation.

The victim was eventually tricked into purchasing digital currency and transferring funds to designated accounts. Family members were also deceived into sending money. Upon returning to China, the victim discovered fraudsters had used his credit card to purchase plane tickets during the period of contact loss.
