Bitcoin Core Shortens Security Disclosure Timeline for AI-Discoverable Bugs, Policy Effective Immediately

According to Chaincode Labs developer Antoine Poinsot, Bitcoin Core ended its extended security disclosure embargoes for vulnerabilities that large language models can easily rediscover, announcing the policy change on October 23.

The project now fast-tracks fixes and point releases for issues flagged as easily discoverable during triage, with security advisories published simultaneously alongside the patched software. Poinsot noted that LLMs have drastically reduced the barrier to finding certain vulnerability classes, making lengthy embargoes ineffective. Critical vulnerabilities capable of enabling coin theft, supply inflation, or permanent chain splits remain outside the standard policy and will be handled case by case.
