According to a statement from the Citizen's Coalition for Economic Justice on November 5, the group criticized the South Korean government and the Democratic Party for proposing a two-year extension of virtual asset income tax implementation. The tax was already delayed by six years through three previous deferrals. The coalition stated the additional deferral undermines tax equity and exacerbates asset inequality, arguing that major countries like the U.S., UK, and Japan imposed digital asset income taxes without waiting for comprehensive regulatory frameworks. The group urged the government and ruling party to implement the tax as originally scheduled starting January 2027.
